The University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra provided a spectacular backdrop for the conclusion of the 24th CAA African Senior Athletics Championships, where six days of intense elite track and field competition culminated in an unforgettable final session.

The most anticipated event aside the 4×100 meter men race was the men’s 200-meter showdown which happened on the final day, a race that lived up to its billing as a masterclass, the race was one that lived to its billing.

Côte d’Ivoire dominated with Cheickna Traore taking the men’s gold in a flawless performance. Behind the champion, was a fierce battle for the remaining podium spots.

The race saw Botswana being second, continuing their strong championship campaign, while South Africa found themselves at the receiving end of the bronze medal after a gritty performance to lock down the third position.

The local Ghanaian crowd cheered to home favorite Joseph Amoah to a fifth-place finish, which meant he missed out on the podium for the host nation.
