France played Spain in the second match of the UEFA Nations league semifinal and the aftermath is one that many will be happy to dive into.

Yamal Lamine had been spectacular coming into the game as Ousmane Dembele who has just won the UEFA Champions league with Paris Saint-Germain.

The debate of who is the best currently was another pressure that these players needed to confront in such a high profile game. Ousmane Dembele, Kylian Mbappe, Yamal Lamine are all in the Balon d’Or race and proving who was the best in a game such as this was the ultimate.

No one can discount these three mentioned players as there were others like Pedri and Niko Williams whose names remains silent in all these awards.

The match that many thought would be so competitive turned out to be like a training session for Spain in the first half through to the 55th minute with goals flying in from all angles.

Niko Williams broke the deadlock in the 22′ minute and 25′ minute, Mikel Merino added a second, France looked lost. They were like scattered chicks on the field trying to flee from a hulk. Nothing was working for and all their efforts and chances in the early minutes were wasted.

They went into the break with a two goals deficit and needed a lot of game plan against Niko and Lamine who were tormenting the French defence. The second half almost followed in the same fashion as Lamine and Pedri added the third and forth in the 54′ and 55′ minutes. It was finished for France at this time until a sudden change of event.

Mbappe was brought down in the 18yard box of Spain and after VAR checks, a spot kick was awarded, the Real Madrid star had no competition as he claimed the ball and did justice to pull one back for his team in the 59′ minute.

Lamine Yamal who had already slotted one in from the spot kick added a second to inflict more pain to the already suffering France team but they did not break as they gathered momentum and started to take the game to Spain.

Rayan Cherki made it 5-2 for France in the 79′ minute while an own goal by Dani Vivian in the 84′ minute revived the hopes of France.

Spain were stunned, they were losing their grip on the game and needed to improvise. Just when they thought they would run the time out, Randal Kolo Muani added the forth for France.

It was game on now, France had given it their all as Spain had little ideas as to how to contain what was coming at them. They adopted the old tactics and antics in football with two minutes of added time to play.

Michael Oliver who was the centre referee after a couple of delayed minutes still ensured his whistle went off to save Spain from another setback.

Kylian Mbappe and his team had lost in a 5-4 game to Spain. The battle between Yamal, Dembele and Mbappe had been settled in a heated game.

Mbappe who didn’t seem happy about how the centre referee Michael Oliver handled the wasted time kept trying to ask questions but the game had already been ended.
