The Super Eagles of Nigeria still have their hopes of World Cup action alive after drawing with South Africa at the Free State Stadium.
South Africa, the hosts came into the fixture as leaders of group C while’s Nigeria clinched the third position with a point difference of six (6).
The game had a lot of tension build even before the start as Nigeria were trying to reshape their our faith following their previous disappointments.
Although Bafana Bafana had four (4) shots on target, their only goal of the game came from Nigerian skipper Troost-Ekong who scored an own-goal in the 25’ to give South Africa the lead.
This was a result not favourable for Nigeria knowing there was two more games to play. The Super Eagles of Nigeria started to string a couple of passes together before getting a hold of the game.
At the bring of half time, Calvin Bassey connected to a cross to put Nigeria back in the game.
The second half was just a game of chess, South Africa sat back and relied on counterattack while Nigeria kept pushing for a win.
Their efforts to get the winner never materialised as the game ended one-all at the Free State Stadium.
South Africa remain top of the group with 17points, Benin on 14points and Nigeria in third with 11points.
