The TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations has shown some of the giants in African football battle for glory while others crashed out leaving their fans dejected. Sadio Mane and Mohammed Salah who were former teammates at Liverpool Fc winning a lot together had to face off for who proceeds to the finals.

It was a match between an irresistible force against the immovable objects. Senegal prior to playing against Egypt had not lost in 90′ since 2019 and needed to prove why they were a team to reckon in the competition.

It was a game of class, determination and persistence noting how both teams had prepared coming into the game.

Chances fell for both teams from the early minutes of the game but the high tension game was far from recording a lot of open goals. Nicolas Jackson, Papa Gueye and Lamine Camara all tried their get the opener for Senegal but Mohammed El Shenawy waas up to the task until Sadio Mane took upon himself to prove a point.

Senegal started a buildup that saw the Egyptian defence stretched before hitting one from outside the box. Mohammed El Shenawy who had been brilliant throughout the game found himself lacking against the pace and power behind Mane’s shot in the 78′ for the opener.

Tensions rose, pressure filled both sides but the Teranga Lions of Senegal held on to their lone goal kind courtesy Sadio Made before Pierre Atcho blew his whistle to bring the game to a close.

Senegal have managed to eliminate the historic title holders as they book a place against Morocco in the finals.
