Manchester United had the chance to go fifth and level on points with Chelsea Fc on the EPL table but had to go through AFF Bournemouth whose resilience changed the entire story.
It was a game of character and discipline, coupled with calmness and composure from AFC Bournemouth whose had to do it twice to leave the Old Trafford stadium with a point.
Manchester United whose fate took a swift change from series of defeats to picking up their momentum opened the scoring in the 13’ after Amad Diallo double attempt following a Shaw cross. It was looking positive for the Reds as Bryan Mbeumo had a glorious opportunity to make it 2-0 for United in the 36’ but he skyrocketed his effort.
AFC Bournemouth finally settled in and started taking a dig a United as Antoine Semenyo in th 40’ took the ball from the centre circle and made a solo move dragging two United defenders before placing his low shot past Lammens.
Manchester United clapped back in style at the brink of half time as a cross from Bruno Fernandez in the 45+4’ was connected by Casemiro with a bouncing header to put United back in front.
The game was far from over for either side as the second half was power packed. The visitors returned with lots of pressure and energy drawing back thei deficit in the 46’. Marcus Tavernier sent Evanilson on the chase with a spotless through-pass which he slotted in without sweat.
It almost went from good to worse for Manchester United in the space of five minutes as Marcus Tavernier who assisted in their equaliser added his name to the scoresheet. In the 52’ Tavernier from yards out took a low free-kick skipping Lammens to give AFC Bournemoutha 2-3 lead.
Bruno Fernandez replied in a similar yet spectacular fashion as Manchester United were awarded a free-kick in a similar position. Bruno did not go low but curled the ball into th top corner giving Petrović no room for clearance in the 77’. Its was all heated for United now as Cunha made it 4-2 for the Red Devils in the 79’.
It was almost a tale to tell, from leading to trailing and finally firing in two quick goals to retake the lead. All Manchester United had to do was see out their 4-3 lead but AFC Bournemouth had other plans for the hosts.
Kroupi in the 84’ drew level for AFC Bournemouth after Amad was dispossessed of the ball in the goal area of using his strength to sheild the ball before slotting it in. The visitors almost ruined the fun as their last kick almost got them maximum points but for a timely intervention and reaction from Lammens who saved David Brooks header with his leg in the 90+11’ as the match ended 4-4.
