It would have been a different story and situation for Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid if his team had won against Celta Vigo in the Spanish LaLiga.

Real Madrid got a better start to the league climbing to the top after beating fierce rivals Fc Barcelona only to lose it all, now lagging behind same.

Since beating Fc Barca in the 2-1 showdown, have managed three (3) wins, three (3) draws and a defeat which has become the determinant of Alonso’s future at the club.

Real Madrid hosted Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabeu where there were beaten in a fashion they never expected. Centre referee Alejandro Quintero added more intensity to the game as he did not hold back reaching to his pocket.

Although Real Madrid had more shorts on target and a better ball possession ration, their defence fell short in complimenting their play as they got punished dearly.

The first half ended in a stalemate and Alonso looked to get things going after the break but Celta Vigo came wi Th their own plans as well. In the 51’ Real Madrid were all over the Celta Vigo goal area only for a counterattack to break.

Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and others tried to track back but their effort to defend their line saw Swedberg getting a clear chance in front of Thibaut Courtois in the 53’ ensuring Courtois was left stuck as he dummied past him for the opener.

Jude Bellingham was the first Real Madrid play to get into the books of Quintero after supposedly stepping onto the pitch without getting the approval of the referee after going off to receive treatment of a cut he sustained on his face. It was like a joke to Alonso who Francisco Garcia got sent off after picking two bookings in the space of a minute.

Francisco Garcia in the 63’ pushed Miguel Roman in a tactical situation after a counterattack break to receive a yellow card only to commit a rough tackle on Swedberg in the 64’ to get sent off.

A. Ferńandez Carreras followed in same fashion as he was sent off after picking two yellow cards in the in the 90+1’ and 90+2’. Carreras was booked for dissent but continue to complain. Quintero wasn’t having it and sent him off.

Frederico Valverde, Rodrygo Goes both got booked for dissent before Endrick who has been bench bound got sent off in an off-the-pitch verbal abuse on the referee.

Real Madrid were already down by a goal and two men short on the field leaving lots of room for Iago Aspas to create a goal scoring opportunity which ended up at the feet of Williot Swedberg who doubled the lead for Celta Vigo in the 90+3’.

The disappointment on the faces of the players held its own story as they have to face a flowing Manchester City in the UCL. Real Madrid are now four (4) points below Fc Barca as the title race continues.
