Arne Slot continues to receive support from the Liverpool board following his inability to meet their demands of winning his next three games in their previous meeting. Slot needed nine (9) points in three games including West Ham United, Sunderland and Leeds United but only managed five (5) points.
Liverpool Fc were in pole position to clinch maximum points against Leeds United at the Elland Road but have it away with novice defending from Van Dijk and Konate cost them dearly.
Leeds United came into the fixture after two improved performances against Manchester City and Chelsea Fc. Leeds United carried their form into the game and managed to hold Liverpool Fc throughout the first half without conceding.
Liverpool Fc who are fighting their own battles needed the win more than anything and returned from the break with a different approach that almost paid off.
Hugo Ekitike in the 48’ gave Liverpool Fc the opener after being gifted the ball in a promising position and doubled it in the 50’ following another missed tackle by Gabriel Gudmundsson. Arne Slot and his team had to see the game through with their 0-2 before the novice errors started.
Ibrahim Konate’s sloppy tackle helped Leeds United get back into the game after bringing down Wilfried Gnonto who was already losing the ball. Centre referee Anthony Taylor after VAR check pointed to the spot where Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled one back in the 73’.
Anton Stach in the 75’ pulled parity for Leeds United after weaving through the Liverpool Fc defence before sending Alisson Becker the wrong way.
Liverpool took the lead again in the 80’ with a Szoboszlai shot only for them to give it away in the late minutes. Liverpool had to hold on for the last 10’ but the hunger from Leeds United saw them fighting till the last second in the clock where Samuri player Ao Tanaka stole a point in the 90+6’.
Arne Slot faced a lot of backlash as many started to call for his dismissal but the board continue to support him with believes he can turn things around.
