Manchester City got the result against Leeds United at the Etihad Stadium with a late winner from Phil Foden. Josep Pep Guardiola and his team almost shared the spoils until the narrow escape at the 90+1’ goal.

Manchester City started the game like hungry lions pouncing on Leeds United in the opening minute of the game resulting in a first minute opener from Phil Foden. These are the kinds of moments one would expect total trashing but football never disappoints.

While Leeds United got their feet in the games and trying to string a couple of passes together, Joško Gvardiol made it 2-0 for Manchester City in the 25’. It was starting to look like the old Man City as they dominated possession and made means from it.

The hosts went into the break with a two goals cushion with high hopes of extending same but the story almost went sour. Leeds United staged a comeback of their own and their determination and persistence started to pay off.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin who came on in the 46’ became a thorn in the flesh of Manchester City as he pulled one back for Leeds United in the 46’. The City team were shook. The former Everton man was causing a lot of trouble for the City defence and his experience got Leeds United a chance to level.

Joško Gvardiol who scored Manchester City’s second goal conceded a penalty after tripping Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Peter Bankes pointed to the spot but was called to the screen for further assessment, after consulting with VAR, Bankes decided to stay with his initial call for a penalty.

Lukas Nmecha took the ball and faced Donnarumma for a chance to equalise for his side. His initial kick was saved by Donnarumma who put the ball back in play, Nmecha whose initial kick was saved reacted faster than any other as he slotted home the rebound in the 68’ to draw parity for Leeds United.

Pep Guardiola was not a happy man on the touchline, his side went from 2-0 and dictating the pace of the game to drawing 2-2 by the 68’.
Pep threw on Rayan Cherki and Omar Marmoush and his substitution proved very effective.

Time was running out for both sides as Leeds United looked content with securing a point at City but Pep had other plans. Rayan Cherki’s sub changed the entire story in added time as he set up Phil Foden who was having a good game. In the 90+1’, Foden slapped Leeds United with a goal that proved to be the winner.

John Stones was subbed only to come and end the game in the 90+6’ as many saw it to be another tactical move from Pep Guardiola. Manchester City now move to the second spot on the league table with five points behind Arsenal and a point ahead of Chelsea and Aston Villa.
