Manchester United needed more than luck travelling to the Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace as they seemed their first victory since 2020.
Manchester United finally break the five years spell as they pick a vital win against one of their foes in the English Premier League.
Crystal Palace have cemented their name as one of the top slayers in the league after humbling Liverpool and Manchester City among others. Manchester United travelling to the Selhurst Park was always one to work hard towards as they seemed their first victory since 2020.
The game started Manchester United doing their usual bossing and dictating play while Crystal Palace picked between the lines to create their own story.
With chances flying in from both teams, Manchester United looked more potent until a sudden twist of events.
It was full of drama from the 32’ to 36’ of the game after Leny Yoro tripped Jean-Philippe Mateta to concede a penalty. Centre referee Robert Jones pointed to the spot where Mateta puts it away but his goal was subject to another VAR review.
Robert Jones stopped play for a VAR review, after reviewing the situation, the referee announced that the goal for Crystal Palace has been revoked.
In the 36’ Jean-Philippe Mateta from the spot sent Senne Lammems the wrong direction to put Palace in front. It was almost like when the home crowd had scripted as Crystal Palace took charge and started to show what they got.
With 25189 spectators in attendance, both teams needed to impress and get their names back on the board and Manchester United needed it more to break the five (5) years wait.
United started the second half in different fashion, hungry, determined and desperate and it all paid off as Zirkzee equalised for Manchester United in the 54’. The crowd was electrified at this moment, Manchester United were fighting to avoid defeat and it was paying off.
Former Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount who hasn’t been on the scoresheet in a while remembered his long lost passion and blasted one in for Manchester United in the 63’ to make it 1-2 for the visitors.
The stadium was still buzzing with believes Crystal Palace will bounce back but Manchester United held on to their lead and also possession making it difficult for Palace to put anything together.
It was not just a match to seek a win but break a building curse and after a great second half, Manchester United materialised a comeback walking out of the Selhurst Park with a 1-2 victory.
