PSV Eindhoven did not just stamp their authority at the Anfield Stadium but added a stench of humiliation to the defending English Premier League champions with a whooping that has got many thinking about the future of Arne Slot with the club.
Before Liverpool Fc hosted PSV Eindhoven for the UCL game, they had managed to hold on with eight (8) defeats in eleven (11) games and needed to turn things around.
Liverpool Fc arguably got one of the best teams in the world as many believe their current performances as based on fatigue but that sure wouldn’t stop an opponent from going all out against them.
It was quick yet surprising as Liverpool gave away the opener with Virgil van Dijk committing a rookies mistake in the penalty box. In the 4’, PSV Eindhoven sent a cross into the Liverpool Fc goal area only for van Dijk to catch it with his hand. The avoidable incident saw centre referee Alejandro Hernandez pointing to the spot.
Ivan Periśić took the chance and gave PSV the lead. The atmosphere at Anfield suddenly changed, it was filled with silence yet cheers from one end.
Szoboszlai who remains one of the competitive midfielders for Liverpool got it levelled for his side in the 16’ with a rebound from Cody Gakpo. The visitors held on to the draw until the whistle went off the the first half.
Liverpool Fc have always enjoyed an electrifying home support which made Anfield a fortress but recently, it’s become just a playing ground for many teams. The second half shattered Arne Slot and his hopes of turning his current fortunes around.
Guus Til shot PSV Eindhoven into the lead in the 56’ after Mauro Junior sent him through with a nice pass, Til positioned himself to shield off Milos Kerkez before banging in his goal for PSV lead.
Alexander Isak and Chiesa got their share of play but that didn’t change the outcome of the game as Couhaib Driouech who came on in the 69’ recorded a brace in the 73’ and 90+1’ to give PSV Eindhoven a 1-4 lead over Liverpool Fc.
Arne Slot was furious his side couldn’t beat PSV Eindhoven as his woes continued to deepen. Liverpool have now reached nine (9) defeats in their last twelve (12) games while many look to the club owners for a new manager.
