The Champions League sure is revealing team with heart and players who can turn things around in split seconds.

While Chelsea Fc were getting their business sorted with Fc Barcelona, Newcastle United and Manchester City were getting their share in France and England respectively.

Olympique Marseille hosted Newcastle United at the Starde Orange Velodrome and almost got surprised but for the persistence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the brilliance of Mason Greenwood throughout the game.

It was Newcastle United’s visit to the Velodrome for more than twenty (20) years walking into an electrifying atmosphere with hopes of making it four (4) wins in their UCL campaign.

Newcastle United went straight to conduct their business as they came close to clinching the opener in the 3’ minute but their effort was cleared on the goal like.

Aubameyang had three glorious opportunities to snatch the lead for Marseille but his efforts were all saved by Nick Pope. Harvey Barnes who has been on fire for Newcastle United in the 5’ got the opener at the Veladrome after Sandro Tonali’s cross took a couple of touches before finding him in space.

This was a result that will be writing some history for Newcastle United and that is what probably triggered Marseille although they went into the half with a goal deficit. The return for action was different from the first. Marseille made sure to utilise their chances and it all fell to Aubameyang who made sure to put it behind the net.

Just a minute after returning to action, Darryl Bakola placed a through pass to Aubameyang which invited Nick Pope to move outside his box, Aubameyang took the ball past Pope at an acute angle and curled it in for an equaliser. It was now game on with nothing stopping the hosts going forward.

Four minutes after equalising for Marseille, Timothy Weah sent in a cross and found Aubameyang who clutched onto the cross with a typical clinical strikers goal to give Marseille a 2-1 lead.

At this point, Newcastle who took an early lead were chasing for a point but Marseille had come a long way to give anything away.

The player many claimed to be finished after returning from the Saudi Pro League continues to hunt the elites.
