Internationale Milan suffered a lone goal defeat to neighbours AC Milan in a fiercely contested game.

It took more than Rafael Leão and Christian Pulisic to keep AC Milan at bay but the heroics of Mike Maignan.

With chances flying in across both ends of the pitch, Saelemaekers tried one from outside the box only for Yann Sommer to parry it into the patch of a pacy Christian Pulisic who calmly slotted it into for the opener in the 54’.

Marcus Thuram who was a threat throughout the game started going the extra mile, his earlier diving header was saved by Maignan followed by Lautaro Martinez’s low curler before conceding a penalty for Internationale Milan.

Pavlović while tracking back another attack from Thuram stepped on the foot on Thuram’s foot getting VAR involved in whether or not a penalty should be awarded.

The ball which had already been crossed made it difficult for centre referee Simone Sozza who was called to the monitor before awarding the penalty kick.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu took to the spot against Maignan who had been fantastic throughout the game. Çalhanoğlu’s chance to draw black for Internationale Milan was saved by Maignan whose reflex got his off the floor in a surprise speed to punch the ball out of play.

AC Milan held on to their lone goal lead till the end winning the neighbouring derby.
