Ghana’s U12 boys wrapped up their impressive campaign at the ITF/CAT African Junior Championships 2025 yesterday with a proud second-place finish after a tight 2–1 loss to Tunisia in the final played in Casablanca. The team’s journey throughout the tournament reflected not only their talent and determination, but also the strong support and leadership of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) and its President, Mr. Isaac Aboagye-Duah, whose steady guidance continues to push junior tennis to higher levels.

Ghana started strongly yesterday as Maxwell Antwi delivered one of the standout performances of the entire competition. Facing Tunisia’s Ben Romdhane Aziz, Maxwell fought through two intense tiebreaks and eventually powered through the third set to win 7–6(7), 6–7(6), 6–1. His victory gave Ghana a 1–0 lead and set the tone for a thrilling final.

Tunisia responded in the second singles match, where Blessing Sewornu took on Dhaoudi Cherif. Although Blessing showed determination, Cherif proved too strong on the day, taking the match 6–0, 6–1 to bring the tie level at 1–1.

With both nations tied, the championship was decided in the doubles played yesterday afternoon. Ghana’s pairing of Maxwell Antwi and Jefter Dawuona gave their best efforts but fell to the Tunisian duo of Aziz and Gharbi Khalil Rahmen, who won 6–1, 6–3 to seal the championship for Tunisia.

A Proud Silver for Ghana, Backed by Strong Federation Support
Despite finishing second, Ghana’s campaign was filled with heart, progress, and maturity. The team’s performance highlighted the impact of the Ghana Tennis Federation’s developmental work and the continuous support from GTF President Mr. Isaac Aboagye-Duah, whose leadership has been essential in providing structure, opportunities, and encouragement for these young athletes.

Ghana ended the tournament yesterday as one of Africa’s strongest junior tennis teams, holding onto their reputation and showing clear signs that they will come back even stronger.
