VfB Stuttgart made sure to stress the life out of Borussia Dortmund in their meeting at the Signal Iduna Park. Borussia Dortmund’s bid to maintain their second spot was denied by a poised VfB Stuttgart who snatched a late equaliser to draw blanks in a highly contested game.
The game started with an evenly split possession with both sides creating half chances at goals until hosts, Dortmund were awarded a penalty kick in the 32’. Emre Can took responsibility and slotted it in for a Dortmund lead in the 33’.
Borussia Dortmund had the lead and started to cover more space in their bid to increase their lead and they got it in the 41’ as Maximilian Beier blasted one in to make it 2-0 for Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund went into the break with a two goals lead only to return to a surprise from VfB Stuttgart. The second half started with lots of urgency from Stuttgart and Deniz Undav who pulled one back in the 47’.
Serhou Guirassy gave Borussia Dortmund the two goals cushion but his 54’ effort was ruled out for offside only for Deniz Undav to get a brace in the 71’ bringing VfB Stuttgart to level pegging.
Karim Adeyemi thought he had won it for Borussia Dortmund in the 89’ with a belter. Both players and the touchline had their eyes on the clock hoping centre referee Benjamin Brand will end proceedings only for Undav to get his hat-trick in the 90+1’ to secure very important point for Stuttgart.
Borussia Dortmund now lag behind and might go fourth on the table pending RB Leipzig’s match against Werder Bremen.
