Bayern Munich go 19 games unbeaten and their last was a regency against current UEFA Champions League and Super Cup title holders Paris Saint-Germain.
The current UEFA Champions League and Super Cup champions Paris Saint-Germain were given a taste of their own medicine in a match centred more on getting revenge than just a cup leading tie.
Paris Saint-Germain became the talk of town after a stellar performance in the UCL and FIFA Club World Cup beating some of the big names including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid. The defeat to these teams probably created the rivalry between Bayern and PSG and the former has gotten their deserved revenge as they went away to Paris Saint-Germain in their UCL tie.
Bayern Munich got the start they wanted after getting the lead in the early minutes of the game. Olise had the chance to take the lead for Bayern Munich but his effort saw saved and fell to Luis Diaz who placed it into the left corner for the opener in the 4’.
The game continued to be a game of chess with flair as both sides launched their own forms of attack. Barcola almost drew level but Manuel Neuer was ever ready for the task.
Just over half-hour on the clock, Luis Diaz got his second for the night and set Bayern Munich in the journey to victory. Marquinhos gifted the ball to Diaz in front of his goal and got punished in the 32’.
It got interesting when Diaz went into a rough tackle on Hakimi in the 45+3’. The initial challenge attracted a yellow card from centre referee Maurizio Mariani before he was called to the screen.
After minutes of contemplation, Miariani changed his initial booking to send Diaz off with a straight red card.
This was a chance for PSG to take back control of the game with their man advantage but they only managed a consolation in the 74’ as João Neves clipped one in from a Kang-in cross.
João Neves was close to clinching an equaliser but his effort in the 84’ but his effort clipped the post. Neuer was called to action a couple of times but the German sweeper skipper lived up to his hype ensuring his side maintained their 1-2 scoreline at the end of the game.
Bayern Munich have now gone 19 unbeaten in all competitions and Vincent Kompany believes they can do more.
