Xabi Alonso’s trip to Anfield surely did not go as expected after his little antics before the game. Alonso who sort not to give away too much details and tactics hence not having his last training session at Anfield still did not manage the result he would have wanted.
Arne Slot and Liverpool Fc are finding their winning spirit after a couple of games in the English Premier League. The two former champions have an unsettled record and although this game wasn’t a final, it was played with passion and was more than a title game.
Liverpool Fc welcomes Real Madrid to Anfield with one plan, secure the win and keep their hopes of UCL glory and they lived to expectations making fans very happy after the game.
From the start to the end, both goalkeepers were called to action but Thibout Courtois was much busier. Dominik Szoboszlai did not make him rest as he fired shots from all angles trying to get an opener but Courtois kept his out all night.
Giorgi Mamardashvili proved he can be the solution to Allison after his stellar performance against Real Madrid who came into the game with some fierce attacking power.
The only goal that separated the two teams came in the 61’ and Dominik Szoboszlai who had been denied countless chances at goal provided the assist from a set-piece.
Alexis Mac Allister connected to Szoboszlai’s cross which went through Courtois’s hands for the opener. Liverpool Fc kept throwing their weight around in a game where both teams wanted to prove a point but at the end of proceedings, Mac Allister’s lone goal proved to be very important for Liverpool.
It was an emotion return to Anfield for some of the Real Madrid players, some who were Portuguese and Trent who paid respect to late former teammate Diogo Jota and his brother.
Xabi Alonso got booked king it five (5) bookings for Real Madrid while Liverpool Fc picked a single booking. As always, if possession won games, Real Madrid would have won by a vast margin having kept 61% of possession but wasteful.
