Newcastle United have knocked out Tottenham Hotspur’s from the EFL cup after hosting Spurs at the St. James Park.

Tottenham Hotspur’s like many other teams in the EPL have been slacking in their recent form and have paid the price. Thomas Frank who started impressively is gradually losing his touch.

Newcastle United are in recent times playing some beautiful football making them competitive enough for title contenders.

The EFL game between these sides saw Thomas Frank gambling with his selection, Mohammad Kudus who is their best player so far had to sit out for Brennan Johnson whose only goal won Spurs their first trophy after 17-years.

Newcastle United played with determination and almost got the opener in the 11’ but Barnes near post effort hit the crossbar.

Minutes later, the Magpies took the lead through a corner kick. Sandro Tonali’s cross was directed into the post by Fabian Schár to record Newcastle’s lead in the 24’.

The pressure kept piling on Tottenham Hotspur’s after Schár’s opener and in the 40’, another headed goal for Newcastle was overturned. Barnes almost scored a spectacular in front of goal in the 44’ but his effort went wide before the break.

Nick Woltemade who has been netting for Newcastle United in the absence of Isak proved why he is the real deal after giving the Magpies a second goal in the 50’ from a Joe Willock cross.

Thomas Frank made a couple of changes after his side went down by 2-0. The introduction of Kudus did have an impact on the game but wasn’t enough to overturn the two-goals deficit.
