The most anticipated rivalry in football history remains the El Classico between Real Madrid and Fc Barcelona. There may be other rivalries but none compare to the tenacious atmosphere that breeds around the Spanish giants meeting.

Fc Barcelona since the introduction of Hansi Flick started to gain their old glory but on gradual grounds while Xabi Alonso is trying to imprint his signature style on the Real Madrid team. This game wasn’t just about football, it was a bragging rights match, a game to showcase skill and superiority and promises fans the drama.

The promo for the anticipated game started with Fc Barca youngster Lamine throwing shades on his IG handle while the Los Blancos trained in silence. Some Yamal Lamine’s comments sparked outrage but all that got sorted out on the field of play.

The Estadio Santiago Bernabeu was packed and electrified ready for action. The fans were in high spirits and expectant that Real Madrid would pick a win at home to reduce the rampant brag and they ended up achieving same.

The game started with promise as Real Madrid wanted to get things going as early as possible, their attemp almost paid off in the 2’ after an attempted shot by Vinicius Junior was blocked by Lamine Yamal. The referee signalled to the spot but was called by VAR to check. His initial call for a penalty was overturned to leave Fc Barca off the hook that early in the game.

At this point, Real Madrid were getting it all right against Fc Barca. In the 11’ a loss in concentration by the Fc Barca defence gave Mbappé an opening where he blasted one from outside the box for what would have been the opener but his goal was ruled offside.

That didn’t stop him from going at the Fc Barca defence as Jude Bellingham started to show why he is one of the best in the midfield. Jude got a ball in the centre circle and dummied two Fc Barca midfielders to lay a beautiful pass to Mbappé who managed to beat the offside line. He placed the ball past Szczęsny in the 21’ to give Real Madrid the lead.

Fc Barca made use of their chance after a defensive blunder gifted them the ball around the Real Madrid box, a diagonal low cross was nicely tapped in by Fermin López to draw level for Fc Barca.

Vini Junior, Mbappé, Güler, Bellingham and Rodrygo were all having a good time against Fc Barca for the first time in a long time. Vini who almost conceded a penalty in the opening minutes of the game took on Koundé and De Jong where he sent in a high cross in the 41’, Éder Militão headed it down onto the foot of Bellingham who tapped it in to say thank you.

Although the game ended 2-1 to Real Madrid, both sides had opportunities to increase their tally especially Madrid but Bellingham and Mbappe’s goals subsequent goals were flagged offside with Mbappé missing a glorious chance from the spot kick.

The drama after the game was expected as Yamal who finds it difficult to accept defeat was seen in his element. His initial brag has been shut but managed to steal the spotlight even after Real Madrid won.

Pedri got booked and sent off in playing time while Real Madrid got their share for an off field incident.
