Xabi Alonso with a touch of tactics brilliance saw his side take a win over Juventus in what seemed to be a game of cheese between the Los Blancos and the Old Ladies.

Both teams came into the tie to prove a point before returning to their respective domestic leagues as Juventus remain winless in their last four (4) games against a Real Madrid side that needs to remain in high spirit for their El Classico on Sunday.

It was nothing short of expected when the Italian side tried to stay true to their identity when was to defend their territory but eventually got breached.

Real Madrid managed 66% of play but were unable to make good of the half chances they created while Juventus had their own share of chances saved by a rejuvenation Thibout Courtois.

Gatti and McKennie forced saves from Courtois in the 9’ and 12’ with surprise shots but didn’t trouble him at all. Tchouaméni after breaking lose in the Juventus box rocked one but his effort was deflected for a corner in the 25’.

Vinicius and Güler worked one for Kylian Mbappé in the 38’ but his effort was saved by Gregario who was in his Buffon element for the night.

The game gradually switched from managed to a fast paced game. Kylian Mbappé had a run at Cambiaso who was no match for the French star. Mbappé’s cut back pass was met by Éder Militão whose effort was way over the crossbar.

Dušan Vlahović had the best chance for Juventus as he found himself in no man’s land after a scary defence swiftly turned into a dangerous counter attack. Courtois was again at his best as he opened himself up to clutch the ball with his foot for a world class save.

The lost chance rattled Real Madrid and in the 56’ a solo effort from Vinicius Junior hit the crossbar only to fall into the path of Jude Bellingham who tapped it home for the goal that became decisive.

Mbappé, Brahim Diaz and Arda Güler all had glorious opportunities to increase their tally but Michele Di Gregorio was in his element to ensure the score stayed 1-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

At the end of the game, Arda Güler stole the spotlight with a surprising look after being adjudged the POTM following a well deserved performance.
