Mikel Arteta and Arsenal went out on a mission and ensured they executed their well thought plans to perfection against a poised Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Atletico Madrid are one of the teams who can turn on the heat against any team but Arsenal really came composed and ready for action.
Arsenal came into this tie with a four game win record while Atletico Madrid had a record of two wins, a draw and a lose. It was one of the games you couldn’t easily predict but Arsenal made it so easy for their fans after the end of proceedings.
The first half of the games remained stalemate although Arsenal held majority of possession, controlling the tempo of the game to their advantage and making Atletico Madrid work extra. Eze who almost got the opener in the 4’ through a deflection saw his effort rock the crossbar.
Atletico Madrid had their own chance in the 24’ after Raya committed himself by going outside the box to shield a ball off the line, Julian Alvarez almost took advantage but his shoot went wide.
The entire action started in the second half when the Gunners started being clinical in front of goal. Gabriel opened the scoring for Arsenal with a header in the 57’ after connecting to a Declan Rice cross.
It was almost a Gabriel’s’ show as Martinelli added the second for Arsenal in the 64’ after receiving a sweet pass from Myles Lewis-Skelly who made a brilliant solo run from inside the Arsenal half into the Atletico Madrid goal area.
Viktor Gyökeres who is recently finding his scoring boot for Arsenal finally joined the party with a brace in the 67’ and 70’ to give Arsenal a 4-0 victory over Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid.
