Real Madrid retains their position at the top of the LaLiga table after a stressful battle against Gatefe at the Coliseum. Nothing very well that their fierce rivals picked up a 2-1 win against Girona they had no option than to win.
Xabi Alonso and his team were taken through the drill by a determined Gatefe who eventually got broken by a resilient Real Madrid who are eyeing the LaLiga title.
Kylian Mbappé who had to withdraw from international duty due to his ankle injury was available for club action as they set out on this mission.
From the start of the game the task was clear for Real Madrid and they started to prove it in the early minutes with 74% of unproductive possession as Gatefe defended their lines very well.
The impenetrable 4-5-1 formation of Gatefe was designed to stress the lives out of Real Madrid which almost got them their expected result until their indiscipline started to cost them.
Allan Nyom was sent off with a straight red card after going in with a rough tackle on Vinicius Junior. Real Madrid had a man advantage but Gatefe switched to a 4-4-1 formation to keep their defensive line in order.
Arda Güler who came on in the 65’ needed fifteen (15) minutes of place to thread one through to Kylian Mbappé in the 80’ to give Real Madrid the most sorted after lead.
Gatefe tried to open up a bit and that created more trouble for them as Alex Sancris who was booked in the 74’ as he goes a bit too further by pulling Alvaro Carreras down. This time he tripped Vini Junior in the 84’ to get his second booking to give Real Madrid a two-man advantage but they could not utilise it as they settled for a 1-0 victory at Gatefe.
Real Madrid remain top of the table with two points clear of Fc Barcelona and seven point off Villarreal.
