Real Madrid slipped on the league log after suffering a humiliating defeat to neighbours Atletico Madrid in a seven (7) goal thriller. This was an opening for league rivals Fc Barcelona to go top of the league with four (4) points should they pick a win against Sevilla but Hansi Flick got flicked.
Fc Barcelona have been one dominant force that keeps coming back after conceding early goals but their opponents have no chance in a game that has shocked many.
As expected of the Catalans, the kept majority of possession but the main objective of the day was achieved by Sevilla after the final whistle. Sevilla started off their upset with an Alexis Sànchez penalty kick in the 13’ following a VAR check before Isaac Romero’a classic stroke in the 36’ gave the host a two goals lead.
Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford paved the way for a return in the 45+7’ but an absolute banger but the story ended there for the Catalans.
The return to action after the break was nothing special from Fc Barcelona as Sevilla sat back and played on the counter. Fc Barca were unable to cope with their pace on the break through out the game. While many believed Raphinha and Yamal’s absence was costing the side, many argued there were other capable players who could do the job.
While Fc Barca continued to press looking for an equaliser, they lost the ball and Sevilla broke free on a counter, José Ángel Carmona led the attack with a lighting speed leaving behind the Fc Barca defence. While Szczęsny was looking to see Carmona cut the ball through, the right-back was targeting the left corner of his post and hit it perfectly to give Sevilla a 3-1 lead.
As it that was all, Akor Adams in added time showed no mercy as he added a fourth in the 90+6’. Ronald Araújo who was having a hard time believing this beating got booked for an offence outside the pitch.
What left many wonder is who won the Most Valuable Player (MVP). In most cases, the MVP/MOTM award has been given to a player from the winning team but this time, Marcus Rashford won it despite his side losing by 4-1.
