British broadcaster and football pundit Gary Lineker after series of lambasting Nigerian star Victor Osimhen for his absence in games where he has been relied on has come back to take his words.
Gary Lineker has apologised to Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen after initially questioning the striker’s character, following his impressive performance in Galatasaray’s 1-0 UEFA Champions League victory over Liverpool.
Victor Osimhen did not just clinch the Man of The Match in the midweek clash at the RAMS Park, but also showed why he was one of the best in the game, this prompted Lineker to retract his earlier comments made on The Rest is Football podcast where he fired at the Galatasaray striker for being lost in games and more.
“I need to apologise to Victor Osimhen. I remember that I intimated that he goes missing sometimes, and I believe that is completely not the case. So, Victor, if you’re listening, I’m sorry about that. You shouldn’t spread rumours about these things, so my bad on that,” Lineker said.
“I saw Osimhen play a couple of times against Leicester when they were in the Europa League. He was so impressive, and I’ve followed his career because of that. He was absolutely brilliant for Napoli. I mean, he was sensational. I do hear on the grapevine that a reason one or two of the clubs are a little bit nervous is that he sometimes goes missing for a few days. So, there’s apparently some kind of slight question mark as to his character in that sense,” Lineker had said.
However, after watching Osimhen’s dominant display against Liverpool this week, the former BBC presenter changed his tune completely.
“He’s quick, tall, a good finisher and strong in the air. He took Konate apart. He’s a hell of a player,” Lineker added in his apology.
