AS Monaco are one of the teams in the Champions League that proven to pose serious threats to any team in the competition. AS Monaco snatch a late winner against Manchester United in a game where Erling Haaland scored twice.
Pep Guardiola like other managers are going through their own struggles in the domestic and European competitions and their game against Monaco is one of those nights managers wish would never happen.
Erling Haaland has been on fire for Manchester City since the start of the season and continued his fine form against AS Monaco in their UCL tie in France.
The game that kicked off with a Haaland opener in the 15’ quickly came to parity in the 18’ after Teye equaliser. This was another challenge many teams have been facing. Losing concentration minutes after taking the lead.
AS Monaco were doing everything right until Haaland decided to share things up a little before the break. In the 44’ the City striker headed one from a cross into the left bottom corner to put City back in the lead.
The second half started with both team looking tense yet reader to finish each other off. Their chances came but both shot stoppers were up to the task. Phillipp Köhn proved to be a stumbling block preventing many City chances.
City were so close to clinching a win as all there needed to do was see their 2-1 lead through but a late defensive error changed everything.
AS Monaco were pushing for an equaliser and threw everything at Manchester City with a minute left to play in added time.
A Monaco free-kick in the 83’ minute changed the story of the game after the aerial duel ended up catching the attention of VAR. Eric Dier was caught with a high foot and after the check a penalty kick was awarded.
Dier who conceded the penalty went up against Donnarumma and sent the Manchester City goalkeeper the wrong way to secure a coping for AS Monaco.
