Atletico Madrid have proven they weren’t just lucky after their win against neighbours Real Madrid as they replicated same scoring prowess against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The UEFA Champions League is gradually taking shape after many teams had to pick up from a disappointing start including Atletico Madrid who suffered a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
The defeat probably dumped their spirits as their next game against Mallorca ended in a draw. They started taking out their frustration on Rayo Vallecano before trashing Real Madrid by 5-2.
Eintracht Frankfurt came into the fixture with lots of hope but their thought of victory got shattered right from the word go.
Atletico Madrid needed just four minutes to make a statement in the game. Raspadori broke the deadlock in the early minutes and Le Normand made it 2-0 in the 33’.
Griezman who netted one against Real Madrid did not miss his chance in the 45+1’ when he made it 3-0 for ATL. At this point, Eintracht Frankfurt could only hope it ends but that was just the first half.
The visitors gave ATL a reason to stay awake in the game after Burkardt pulled one back to make it 3-1. Their style of play had changed but Diego Simeone adjusted his team to meet the potential challenge.
Simeone in the 70’ made it 4-1 for Atletico Madrid free heading the ball home from a Julian Alvarez cross.
Julian Alvarez who has become the centre of attention at Atletico Madrid directed a shot on target but his effort was saved, while waiting to add to the scoresheet, Aurele Amenda handled the ball in the penalty box to draw heavy protests. The centre referee initially looked uninterested until he touched on his ear to respond from a VAR directive.
Slavko Vincic after the VAR check changed his initial call and decided to award a penalty to Atletico Madrid.
Julian Alvarez whose effort resulted in the penalty call took responsibility and took the kick. Putting the ball away with his right foot, Kaua came close to denying the opportunity but the pace on the ball made it impossible.
Atletico Madrid in their last three games have scored thirteen (13) goals and conceded five (5).
