Real Madrid have not won a game against their neighbor Atletico Madrid in the last 6 La Liga matches. The Royals last league win against them was in September 2022 and their bid to overturn the tide resulted in a derby destruction.

Xabi Alonso is not new to the intensity of derby games between Real Madrid and neighbours Atletico Madrid as a former player of the Royals.

After a slip up from Fc Barcelona placed them top to the league table, many believed they would build on it but the results from the derby has got many wondering if that’s possible.

Real Madrid have not won a game against their neighbor Atletico Madrid in the last 6 La Liga matches and sort to turn the tide around but their plan for retribution ended in chaos.

A derby destruction that recorded seven (7) goals with a three (3) goal winning margin. The Royals last league win against them was in September 2022.

Real Madrid were on a perfect run coming into this league match away to Atletico Madrid and could continue their streak but a couple of defensive errors lead to their hefty defeat.

Diego Simeone and his men went straight into action securing the opener by Le Normand in the 14’. It was still early for Real Madrid to work around and they replied the hosts with an equaliser in the 25’ by Kylian Mbappe who has been on a scoring spree.

Lots of chances went for both sides after Mbappe’s equaliser until Arda Güler shot Real Madrid into the lead in the 36’. Los Blancos were on the verge of picking a win against their neighbours but the game still wasn’t over.

Sørloth pulled parity for ATM in the 45+3’ to ensure the game was even before heading into the break. The real fight started in the second half when the defence of Real Madrid started to exhibit a lack of concentration fuelled by overconfidence.

Julian Alvarez who has become the star player of Atletico Madrid added to the tally from the spot-kick in the 51’ after Güler’s rough tackle on Niko Gonzalez in the 49’.

ATM had now overturned the game to take a 3-2 lead. Julian Alvarez who was having a good game got tripped by Franco Mastantuono which resulted in a free kick at a dangerous position. Alvarez took charge a curled the ball into the net to give ATM a 4-2 lead.

The face of Alonso after seeing his side down by this scoreline needed no explanation. But just when he thought he had to settle for that, left-footed Antoine Griezmann added the fifth for ATM with his right-foot in the 90+3 to end the game at 5-2.

Real Madrid still remain top of the table with 18points as Fc Barcelona prepare for their clash against Real Sociedad.
