The current European champions Paris Saint-Germain have started their UCL defence in style against Atalanta and manager Luis Enrique hopes they can continue with this performance.

Paris Saint-Germain won their first ever UCL title in style after beating Internationale Milan by 5-0 to book a place in the UEFA super cup against Tottenham Hotspur’s which they won. Before that, Chelsea Fc pulled some magic to neutralise the European champions when they faced off at the FIFA Club World Cup where the English reps won by 3-0.

Enrique has since been building his team for the season ahead and he showcased what they are capable of against Italian side Atalanta at the Parc de Prince during their UCL fixture.

Atalanta had to dig deep to get any positive result which did not seem likely and the match proper proved samed.

Paris Saint-Germain started the game without two of their key players Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé who are both out due to injuries (Calf injury, thigh injury respectively) but still presented a competitive team.

Ademola Lookman who has been an issue of discussion at Atalanta was also out of the Italian sides squad due to club transfer issues.

Whiles Liverpool Fc needed the opening four minutes of the game to open the scoreline against Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain did in three minutes. Marquinhos found the back of the net for PSG in the opening 3′ with an assist from Fabián Ruiz before Khivicha Kvaratskhelia added the second in the 39′.

At this point, nothing seemed to be working for Atalanta who were chasing after the ball since conceding. Bradley Barcola had the chance to make it four for PSG but his effort from the spot kick was was placed into the gloves of Marco Carnesecchi. His kick had no power nor pace making it easy for the goal keeper and yet a great let off.

The first half ended with PSG holding Atalanta to a 2-0 lead and the second was no different. Nuno Mendes who has been the headache of many attackers added the third for PSG in the 51′. It was too easy for PSG as they were controlling more than 50% of possession. Luis Enrique had the chance to play around as he threw in five (5) substitutes between the 55′-75′.

Just when Ivan Jurić was coming to terms with a 3-0 defeat, a defensive blander in the 90+1′ gifted the ball to opposition player Gonçalo Ramos who were in an open space with the goalkeeper and he took his chance without mistake to extend PSG’s lead to 4-0.

The centre referee ended proceedings after 90+4′ as PSG held on to their 4-0 victory.
