Xabi Alonso and his team were given a serious test in the Spanish LaLiga after facing Real Sociedad in the Spanish LaLiga but had answers to what questions were thrown at them.

The former Bayern 04 Leverkusen manager has been trying to create his signature style of play with the Los Blancos and that has not been easy but working.

The game got heated as early as the 6’ when Igor Zubeldia of Sociedad was booked but that didn’t reduce the tempo of the game.

Real Madrid who were playing away from home needed to make a statement and Mbappe was the one to make that announcement in the 12’.

The entire rhythm of the game changed when Dean Huijsen was sent off in the 32’ followed by his manager Xabi Alonso who was yellow carded two minutes later.

With a man down, Real Madrid needed to change their philosophy to face a poised Sociedad but minute before the break, Arda Güler doubled the lead for Real Madrid after a link up with Mbappe.

56’ into the game, Real Sociedad were awarded a penalty which was scored by Mikel Oyarzabal to reduce their deficit. Real Madrid had one job to do after that and they did it perfectly.

With Sociedad dictating the pace of play and possession, Real Madrid had to work extra in defence to ensure their lead was protected. Mbappe got his share of the booking in the 62’ but the team managed to hold on to the 1-2 lead till the end of proceedings.
