DR Congo fans could not accept why their team gave up a comfortable lead to now fall behind Senegal on the table hence another chaos outside the stadium in Kinshasa.
DR Congo were leaders group B before their crucial match against Senegal for a shot at World Cup qualification.
The stadium was packed with hopes of DR Congo extending their points to 19 but football is not a game for a particular group.
As unpredictable as it was, DR Congo took a 2-0 lead against Senegal as Bakambu and Wissa netted in the 27’ and 33’. The stadium was elevated and electrified at this point with the hopes that DR Congo can hold on to this two-goal lead.
Senegal who weee second in the log with 15points saw their chance slipping away and decided to turn up the heat.
Gueye pulled on back for Senegal in the 39’ to give his side some glimpses of hope going into the break.
Senegal resumed play with the same mentality as they realised DR Congo were sitting back. They continue to build and pile pressure on the opposition until they found another opening.
Chelsea forward currently on loan at Bayern Munich, Nicolas Jackson eight (8) minutes into the second half drew level for Senegal.
The atmosphere at the stadium suddenly changed, the hopes of a nation were being shattered. DR Congo lost their two-lead and started to fight back but Senegal had a fair grip on the game now.
Papa Matar Sarr who came on in the 77’ delivered the devastating blow with a winner in the 87’.
The game that started with a 2-0 lead in favour of DR Congo has now switched to a 2-3 in favour of Senegal.
Their efforts to salvage a point in the game was already late as Senegal controlled the pace of the game with possession and little mistakes.
With Senegal overtaking DR Congo at the top of the group, fans of the home team started to run rampage inside/outside the stadium.
Chairs broken and other facilities destroyed just to vent their anger on their team losing to Senegal after a 2-0 lead.
With two games left to play, DR Congo will now find it difficult knowing the implications of such acts by fans. While’s CAF has condemned the act, they still await any official sanction.
