Fc Barcelona and Polish national team player Robert Lewandowski has caused a stir on social media after his statement about excusing himself from the national team.

Many players have done same and not to address the reason why but Lewi has stated categorically why he is not going to play for the national team until some issues he has raised are addressed.

Lewandowski is one of the best strikers in the world and the best player Poland can boast of, playing through his injury and fighting for the national team, making the fans proud has been one of his greatest achievements, this is evident in many of his post match comments.

Some players retire from international football when they encounter issues with the team but Lewi has given conditions which lead to his decision to excuse himself on his X account.

“Taking into account the circumstances and a loss od trust in the coach, I have decided to resign from playing for the Polish national team for as long as he remains in charge. I hope I will still have another chance to play again for the best fans in the world.”

This was a straight forward callout at the gaffer of the Polish national team Michal Probierz. Many instances in the national team has caused division in both player and management and Lewandowski who has played at the highest level thought its not right for Probierz to take the decision concerning the leadership of the team as if affects their performance.

Lewi explained, “Coach Probierz unexpectedly called me and said he had decided to strip me of the captain’s armband. I wasn’t prepared for that – the conversation lasted only about a minute. The way this news was delivered truly shocked me.

I wasn’t captain for just one or two years..it’s been eleven. And I’ve played for the national team for seventeen years. Such matters should be handled differently. The coach betrayed my trust.”

Lewandowski’s commitment to the Polish national team is truly remarkable and while many share in his sentiments, others have also called him selfish for thinking he is the only player who deserves to lead the team.

An ‘X’ user replied to his post saying if his dedication is to the nation and the fans, then playing under a new leader shouldn’t be a problem for him, but as it stands Lewi is resigned and hopes Michal Probierz will leave the team so he gets another chance to play.
