Football has been vile between supporters and brutal to many managers following how they are sacked from their posts but in recent times, no mercy has been shown even to those who go all out to break the long unbroken records of a club.
Tottenham Hotspur have set the media ablaze after confirming the sacking of major trophy winning manager Ange Postecoglou. This was a surprise to many who keep wondering what has been the basis of this decision.
Tottenham Hotspur had tried to win a major trophy for 17yrs and signed players who were world class in the like of Harry Kane, Luca Modric, Son, Lucas Moura, Trippier, Bale among other names but always failed until the signing Ange Postecoglou whose promise to the club and fans was to give them a major trophy after two seasons which he respectfully fulfilled leading them to UCL qualification.
As many quizzed how the team was going to beef their transfers and form a team that can compete in the UEFA Champions league, Tottenham Hotspur have sacked Ange.
The current UEFA Europa league champions posted on their social media handle, “Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has bee relieved of his duties.”
This was a shocker, players and fans have shared their frustration including Newcastle legend Alan Shearer who said, “what a stupid game football is!!!”
Pedro Porro: “Thank you for everything, boss. I’ll always be grateful for the way you led us, defended us, and kept us going through all the highs and lows. Above everything, you gave us one of the greatest moments in the club’s history and for that, you’ll always be celebrated.”
Spurs and Brazilian forward Richarlison added: “Everyone who loves the Spurs will remember that Big Ange always bags trophies in his second season. We’ve made history! Cheers and good luck on your journey! I’ll always be rooting for you.”
Former England forward Chris Sutton told BBC Sport the sacking summed up modern football stressing that, “I am not saying it has been brilliant this season because I understand the league has been a disappointment – but he has won a major European trophy and that is a huge achievement, to get someone in who wins them silverware, then straightaway get rid of him, that sums up modern football, doesn’t it? It’s absolutely bonkers.”
Postecoglou as manager of Tottenham Hotspur surely did not have a perfect run in the English premier league after coming 16th on the log although they beat Manchester United in the Europa league final. Many have said he beat a weaker Man United and that is nothing special, already forgetting he has handed them a major trophy after 17years.
The decision of the club on the managerial position seems to align with their new competition ahead a seek to get another manager who is fit for the role.
Ange Postecoglou after his ousting shared an emotional message to all, “when i reflect on my time as Manager of Tottenham Hotspur my overriding emotion is one of pride.
The opportunity to lead one of England’s historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with all those who truly love this club and seeing the impact it had on them is something I will never forget.
That night in Bilbao was the culmination of two years of hard work, dedication and unwavering belief in a dream. There were many challenges to overcome and plenty of moise that comes with trying to accomplish what many said was not possible.
We have also laid foundations that mean this club should not have to wait 17 more years for their next success. I have enormous faith in this group of players and know there is much more potential and growth in them.
I sincerely want to thank those who are the lifeblood of the club, the supporters. I know there were some difficult times but I always felt that they wanted me to succeed and that gave me all the motivation I needed to push on. It’s important to acknowledge the hard working people at Spurs who gave me encouragement on a daily basis.
And finally, I want to thank those who were with me every day for the last two years. A fantastic group of young men who are now legends of this football club and the brilliant coaches who never once doubted we could do something special.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s are currently on the market scouting for another manager to succeed Ange but added Postecoglou would be remembered for delivering “one of the club’s greatest moments” in becoming only the third manager to win them a European trophy.
Who takes over from Ange Postecoglou as the next Tottenham Hotspur’s manager?
