The race for the most prestigious individual award in football continues with many past and current players tipping who they thing deserves the award. Many names came into the frey including Ousmane Dembele who has been quietly cooking with Paris Saint-Germain in the French Ligue 1.

Yamal Lamine who has won the domestic treble with Fc Barcelona has been tipped by many to won the award because of the exceptional season he has had while others debate hinges around his age.

Yamal is 17years and has helped his team win the domestic treble but his personal numbers do not match others who stand in pole position to contest for the same.

Ousmane Dembele has also won the treble with Paris Saint-Germain showing class throughout the season to winning their most sorted after trophy, the UEFA Champions league. Fc Barcelona were knocked out in the semifinal by Inter Milan whiles Paris Saint-Germain battled it out with in-form Arsenal to reach the final.

Kylian Mbappe who joined Real Madrid this season was a favourite following his impressive run and winning the LaLiga player of the season ahead of Lamine who many have said had the best performance in the league.

Sergio Kun Aguero after realising Dembele was trending as the favourite for the Balon d’Or had this for football lover;

“Dembele close to the Balon d’Or? Lets be realistic. It’s true that Dembele is an exceptional player, and winning the Champions league with Paris is a great achievement. But that doesn’t automatically mean he deserves the Balon d’Or! Lamine Yamal has been on a complete different level this season! Three domestic titles, consistent performances in every match, shining in every competition! and he’s still at the beginning of his career. Isn’t that the true definition of excellence?

The Balon d’Or should be awarded to the most influential player, not just to the one who won the Champions league. Otherwise, why not give the award every year directly to the winner of the European Championship? It’s much more complicated than that! Let me be honest. If the criteria were consistent performances, great impact, and technical prowess, Yamal clearly excels. This isn’t a matter of opinion, but of facts and figures! In fact, I hope Lamine wins it, and Messi is the one who presents it to him.”

The entire statement from Sergio Kun Aguero has sparked controversy, this isn’t just an opinion by a political statement between teams and the rivalry that has span for decades.

France face Spain in the UEFA Nations league semifinal where Yamal Lamine faces another Balon d’Or contender Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe. This will be another test and a probable determinant to crown the best.
