The Ghana Boxing Authority has been under lots of scrutiny and its all been how the Authority has been handled under the leadership of Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye. The majority of stakeholder groups under the Ghana Boxing Authority, consisting of the United Boxing Coaches Association of Ghana, Boxing Managers Association of Ghana, Boxing Promoters Association of Ghana, Professional Boxing Ring Officials of Ghana, Boxing Matchmakers & Agents Association of Ghana and Veteran Boxers Association of Ghana in a letter signed by their various leadership has rejected the GBA July 12, 2025 set date for its Elective Congress and demand accountability.

The letter dared 19th May, 2025 was addressed to the GBA President and copied to the Minister of Sports & Recreation, the Director General of the NSA as well as all the GBA elected members.

The letter demands the recomposition of the GBA Board to be in conformity to the GBA Constitution, indicating that the current formation is inconsistent with the GBA Constitution which will have its repercussions on the elective congress and therefore steps needed to be taken to avoid such an event.

They demanded an audience with the GBA leadership in order to streamline its actions to be in line with the constitution to avoid any possible legal action from any member or whatsoever.

One of their major concerns is about accountability as the GBA under the leadership of the Abraham Kotei Neequaye has failed to account to the stakeholders the activities of the GBA for close to four (4) years. There has not been a session of meetings to discuss the current state of affairs nor how to build for a better boxing ground in Ghana.

They also believe without recomposition of the current board to be in conformity with the GBA constitution, the outcome of the Elective Congress could be challenged since all the immediate past board members have a voting right and as the current composition of the board is inconsistent (with more than co-opted members required by the constitution), the Elective Congress outcome could be nullified by any court of competent jurisdiction if challenged.

The letter was signed by the following personalities for their respective Association under the committee (Committee for Professional Boxing Stakeholders -CPBS);

Alhaji Moshud Zaid, Ag. Chairman for the Committee & President – Boxing Managers Association of Ghana, Mr. Charles Quartey – President, United Boxing Coaches Association of Ghana, Mr. Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye, President – Boxing Promoters Association of Ghana, Mr. Abdul Rasheed Williams, President – Boxing Matchmakers & Agents Association of Ghana, Mr. Roger Barnor, GBA 2nd Vice President & President – Boxing Ring Officials Association of Ghana and last but not the least, Mr. Razak Agorza, President – Veteran Boxers Association of Ghana.

They were also of the view that an Extraordinary Congress would afford the GBA leadership to account for their stewardship over the past four (4) years and if the need be to adopt any recommendations made by the recent Committee set up by the Hon. Minister of Sports & Recreation following the unfortunate demise of the Nigerian Boxer who involved in a boxing bout in Ghana on the 29th March, 2025 at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
