Crystal Palace has added to the misery of Manchester City and Josep Pep Guardiola’s season after they delivered another master class to win their first major trophy after their third attempt in years.
For the first time in 119-years, Crystal Palace have ensured they went home with the trophy. They started this journey in 1990 when Crystal Palace took on Manchester United and lost by 0-1. They kept fighting and qualifying to the finals and in May 2016, they faced Manchester United yet again in the FA cup final and again lost by 1-2.
The trend of losing all their finals needed to be changed, they had one target now, go all out against whoever it is and claim that silver ware.
May 2025 was a different story, it was against another Manchester club but not United. This was a change, they have different opponents, probably one to be scared of but the battle was to be determined on the field of play.
Oliver Glasner’s team beat Josep Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to be crowned FA Cup champions at the Wembley stadium and it was a sight to see.
It was early to call it for Manchester City but no one would have imagined Crystal Palace would make a clean steal of this silver ware at the expense of City whose season has been one of the worst comparing what Pep had built with the club.
Eze Eberechi was in good spirit for the match, he has been longing for a trophy broke deadlock for his side in the 16th minute and the shock on the face of Pep told it all. The tiki taka game started. It was getting messy for Crystal Palace and their only option was to defend like soldiers.

36 minutes into the first half, Manchester City were awarded a penalty and Omar Marmoush stepped forward. He was eager to bring his side to level pegging but he first had to beat Dean Henderson. It was a tense moment, the whole faith of Manchester City rested on Marmoush. He stepped back looked at Henderson and went for goal but the spider-man did not get confused with the antics, he stood his ground and saved the penalty kick.
Crystal Palace were still in the game, they have been given a lifeline they would surely be grateful for. The first half ended with Crystal Palace holding on to their 1-0 lead.

The second half was more intense, Manchester City were ready to tear the team apart in their quest of an equaliser but Crystal Palace who were playing their third FA Cup final were no moved.
They had scored one and got one disallowed, they fought with everything on the field and held on air tight. Manchester City’s persistence did not yield any results. It was just a night destined for Crystal Palace.
For the first time in the history of the club, Crystal Palace have won a major trophy and Dean Henderson whose flying skills saved the team has been hailed by all.
