Yann Sommer has proven to be one of the best shot stoppers in the world after another superb performance in the UEFA Champions league semi-final tie against Fc Barcelona.
The Swiss and Internationale Milan goalkeeper has been in the news for the good reasons and needs to be mentioned.
The 36yrs old Swiss showed up when he was needed and ensured he delivered to expectations after facing FC Barcelona in a thirteen (13) goal thriller of two games. Internationale Milan were hosted at the Camp Nou in their UEFA Champions league first leg where they drew in a six (6) goals split.
Yann Sommer irrespective of conceding three goals managed to save his side from conceding more than was recorded. His defensive line was always controlled and his response to attacking the ball was just on another level.
The real heroism was realised when they hosted FC Barcelona at the San Siro where they shared visuals of a viper ready to devour its prey and it sure was the narrative.
Inter Milan irrespective of winning the tie by 4-3 at home, the one who saved the day was Yann Sommer.
It has always been difficult to redirect to attack deflected balls as a goalkeeper but not Yann Sommer. The Inter Milan shot stopper bend the air and this was in real time. The manner in which he switched in the air to stop a deflected ball from entering his post is one to study.
Being awarded MOTM was just a testimony of what he had done on the night but realising the entire team hailing him after saving one of the most difficult curls by Lamine Yamal and getting on with action was remarkable.
Many other shot stoppers would punch the air in jubilation but Yann Sommer just continued like that was nothing special.
Winning the MOTM award is just another step in the right direction but Yann Sommer now has the chance of winning the ultimate as Inter Milan face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions league final.
Would Yann find his dancing shoes like he did against FC Barcelona?
