The TotalEnergies CAF AFCON U-20 tournament has been a tournament that has produced some spectacular talents and future prospects for many western teams and even into the numerous senior national teams.
The Ghana Black Stars have had a crop of U-20 players integrated into the Black Meteors and even the senior team over time who have gone on to become some of the important figures in the team currently.
Andre Dede Ayew and his brother Jordan Ayew are two such examples with many others still making a name for the national team.
The Ghana Black Satellites opened their TotalEnergies CAF AFCON U-20 journey against DR Congo and they sure got a lesson they will not forget very soon. Ghana who were favourites to many going into this opener got stunned after Samuel Ntanda’s header gave DR Congo a surprise 16th-minute lead.
It was now a game to chase by the Black Satellites. They had to change their game plan as they had to fight to equalise their lone goal deficit.
Musibau Aziz eight minutes after equalised for Ghana after the teams consistent pressing. Ghana after their equaliser had majority of possession but could not convert it into any goal.
DR. Congo ensured they hold on to the point if they couldn’t get maximum points with a defensive line that went all to out to ensure Ghana was held off their goal lines.
The Group C opener between Ghana and DR. Congo ended with both teams netting once.
