Boxing in Ghana has a lot of prospects and currently going in the right direction with with inclusion of promoters like the Ike Bazuka Quartey promotions, Nana Promotions, Ace and Legacy Sports Management and Promotions.

These promoters in a joint collaboration with the finest matchmakers have ensured boxing in Ghana is taking shape with quality pairings during fights. Michael Dicardi Nelson who has gained the name ‘Mayweather’ from the boxing community of Ghana is set to fight for the WBC International Championship title and this is another step in the right direction.

In an exclusive interview with Dicardi Nelson, he revealed many things that has been going on behind the scenes and his stern preparations towards this very important fight of his career.

“Its always been a dream to win a world title and when the opportunity came, I smiled and said to myself, now is the time. For this fight am very and fully prepared not just to show the world what I am made of but also to win this WBC World Title. I am more than ready.

I have been watching Mwale’s fights and and noticed he is a Southpaw. My advantage is my speed although I am also a Southpaw and I am better at getting my business done.

Boxing entails a lot of preparations including your backroom staff. Talk of encouragement and motivation, my manager has been a beacon of light. His way of motivation is just out of this world. His words of encouragement and other forms of support just keeps me in the right spaces and I promise him, I will make his sacrifices pay off against Mwale in this title fight.” said Nelson.

The fight which will be held at the New Government Complex is said to be one of the most explosive fights and have their tickets almost sold out.

Nelson in the exclusive interview added, “The journey is far but as long as the battle is far ahead, I am glad to journey on to glory. I will not just go there to add to the numbers, I will make them remember my name. I will introduce them to new skills and power. I will make them understand and feel my pace in strength. The name ‘Mayweather’ is not just dawned on me but because of what i represent in the ring.

Many boxers promise to end the fight in early round but rather get it turned against them, I am not all other boxers, I will attack his body, I will make his lose grip of his own self and end thing in the third round. I am not ready for the clinching game, I am going there to fight and nothing more.

Its just about time and my time is now, I have tried to get fighters in Ghana into the ring but none of that worked, now I have to go finish off David Mwale for the WBC World Title, come home and train even harder than I am training now to keep myself well conditioned. I know after bringing home the title, many boxers will now want to fight me and I need to be ready for whoever will be ready to mount the ring with me.”

He used the opportunity to call on boxing lover in Ghana to support boxing and also throw their support behind his as he goes out on the 24th May 2025 to raise the flag of Ghana high.
