Ghana boxing has been on the low for some time now and many lovers of the sport have raised concerns about what needs to be done to bring the sport to its past glory.
Ghana has had the opportunity to compete for glory in boxing but in recent times, all the warriors have failed woefully.
The boxing community have asked for transformation in the event but change has become one that no one is willing to accept but rather keep their face and unbeaten runs.
Joshua Clottey, a former Ghanaian boxer and world champion after realising the fall of many rising stars on the world stage sent a word of caution which is notable right on spot.
In his previous submission, Clottey made boxing lover understand that not every boxer is going to be a world champion and it takes the best to push the best to win a world title.
Many Ghanaian boxers are fixated on maintaining a winning streak and unbeaten record hence do no want to fight the best in their category.
A similar incident is when Musah Lawson called out Derrick ‘Show Love’ Quaye who was ranting on social media of how he will destroy the career of Lawson (awoodade). On the day when he was called to sign a contract for a fight, Derrick Qauye chickened out. This has been the case of Ghana boxing and it has lead to fighter being paired with push-over boxers as Joshua Clottey put it.
Another Ghanaian boxer who has been outstanding in the Ghanaian scene has received his whooping in Riyadh after pursuing the World Boxing Council (WBC) Boxing Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia.
Enoch Tettey ‘Bukom Rock’ Tetteh who had to battle American youngster Tyshawn Denson realised it was a different atmosphere where you don’t dictate the pace. In as much as Enoch ‘Bukom Rock’ Tettey Tetteh lost by a unanimous decision, his craft wasn’t at the level to match the American boxer.
Ghanaian boxers have been known as one of the toughest to endure but this Ghanaian realised he still needs to train more for the international ground as its no joke.
‘Bukom Rock’ lost on the score cards by 55-59, 54-60, 54-60 to end his dreams of any title for the moment.
Going back to the advise of the former world title champion Joshua Clottey, ‘Bukom Rock’ needs to start fighting with the best in Ghana to get himself seasoned for the international stage as the best will always give you the test you require, a measure to access yourself and improve before you meet other opponents.
