Krobea Kumasi Asante Kotoko notably one of the biggest clubs in Ghana and Africa suffer another humiliating defeat after a long talk on social media against Accra Lions who are currently battling league survival.
The Ghana Premier league is gradually taking shape and many teams who have showcased temporal abilities are being exposed in their own trails. Kumasi Asante Kotoko like Accra Hearts of Oak went into the game with a win in their previous games and made fans believe it was another easy points to bad against the already wounded lions.
Kotoko went into the game on top of the Ghana premier league 47 points and needed a win to remain top of the table with a tight following from Nations Fc and Bibiani Gold Stars.
The game which was supposed to be ended in the early for Kotoko became their own crucifixion. The complacency in the team and their approach to games have always cost them immensely.
Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, the gaffer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko who has been in the game for a while and winning ways thought it was time to experiment since Accra Lions to him were no match.
Things took a sudden twist when they realised the training session they planned to have had backfired. Accra Lions who have been struggling to keep-up in the league started their preseason early as they toyed and dragged Kumasi Asante Kotoko and leagues of the league in the mud.
The performance of Accra Lions was commendable and their determination during the game was surprising. Kumasi Asante who many have suggested got their previous win following a controversial penalty kick needed another magic to cope with Accra Lions but the magic was no where to be found.
The got beaten, humiliated and dropped from their top spot by Accra Lions who looked more hungry for success.
In their three goal defeat, Dr. Ogum who many have been calling to be sacked assured supporters that he is on the right track and needed time as is the process with football but the fans were not taking that.
In a post match interview, Dr. Ogum whose side suffered a 3-0 defeat recounted moments where he suggests they gave the game aways and that made it worse as the fans quizzed why he did not turn things around if he saw the fault.
In the interview, Dr. Ogum voiced, “these games are always very difficult and needs lots of concentration. Accra Lions is a very good team who find themselves in a very bad position and this is why we had a very difficult task. We were playing very good football and held lots of possession while determining the pace of play until we conceded the opener. Everything changed from there, we couldn’t gather our composure and Accra Lions took advantage of our disoriented team.”
This is where the gaffer shows his true traits, when your team is down you find means to resurrect things but coach Ogum thought they had already conceded a goal and there was no need changing things on the field of play to turn things around.
