The Sports Ministry whose mandate covers the entire sporting activities in Ghana has got many netizens worried following recent events and reasons why it has been so difficult for the Minister for Sports to come out clear on what is going on with the budget allocations for the various sporting disciplines especially, the Ghana Black Stars.
During the national budget reading in parliament, a broad budget is allocated for all sectors where each ministry gets to know what they will be working with and how to get more support either through their own departments or sponsorships that may come in.
The Sports Minister, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams has continually kept netizens in the dark when it comes to him coming clear with the budget allocation for the Black Stars of Ghana.
The normal practice has been a declaration of what is available and how it will be distributed so that every sporting discipline gets to know the kind of support and how much is there to utilise.
The Minister after taking to office has overseen the Black Stars FIFA world cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar and will be overseeing their participation in the Unity Cup which will be played in the United Kingdom.
With two games already played and funds already used, it is only right for the taxpayers to want to know how much of their money had been invested in the team but that seems not to be the plan of the minister who has other plans.
In previous years, these ministries have made budgetary allocations to the Black Stars where the input was 200% more than expectation.
Many have argued that the allocation should not be more than the price money of whatever tournament the team will be participating in but this is a different case.
The excuses the minister keeps making does not have any viable cause that to make netizens believe there is something fishy going on.
What would have been holding the minister back in making public the budget the Black Stars while he denies others any form of support. There are many other associations and federations who would not benefit from the budget design of the ministry but holding on to this sensitive information from the public who would want to know how to ask for accountability is fishy.
“You will know the Black Stars budget when the time comes. I’m saying that I will make it public. Has the National team ceased playing?” said Hon. Adams.
This statement undermines the fundamental comprehension of what is on the budget and whether the team has stopped playing or not. How much did they spend on the game against Chad, Madagascar? How much were they paid as bonuses and other allowances? How much in total does the team have to spend from?
These are questions that have been asked and the only way to solve the mystery is when the minister decided when it is appropriate to disclose it even if it takes his the entirety of his term in office of the Ministry of Sports.
