The fight for all sports disciplines in Ghana to get assistance from the sports ministry has been a fight that last lasted for more than a century and it continues to be the headache of these lesser sports who do not have any other means of support.

The sports ministry have over the years showed particular interest in one or a maximum two sports where they always have supports ready even before it is required. This has killed the dreams of many sportsmen and women who have given their best in ensuring they project the name of Ghana through their art and crafts.

The Minister for Sports, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams during his vetting to becoming the Sports Minister assured the panel and entire of Ghana that his main focus as the sports minister would be on the lesser sports but it seems to be a different pattern in reality.

The Black Stars and sometimes Black Bombers have received the most support but the focus has always been on the Black Stars counting down to many of the past ministers and it continues.

With the promise by the Honourable member of parliament to focus greatly on lesser sports, it is rather disappointing to note his failed promise after turning a blind eye on the Ghana hockey team who had the chance to compete in the U21 African Hockey Cup.

Many have questioned whether hockey falls under the category of lesser sports in the books of the minister and why they are not participating in the tourney.

Mr. Isaac Graham after his interviews which surfaced online stated that, “we have officially withdrawn from the U21 African Hockey Cup qualifiers. We’ve has confirmations from the Sports Ministry that they are not in a position to help us.”

My question is simple, when will the sports ministry ever be ready to be in the position to help the lesser sport? Would they ever not be in the position to help the Black Stars should they decide any such travels or activity?

This is worrying and has made many deduce that the promise of the Minister during the vetting was another political talk which holds no value. The Black Starlets after winning their tourney in Israel would be headlined with whooping bonuses which will become a fight in the future because of how and when it might be paid.

The Sports Minister should come clear with a comprehensive budget that shows the allocation of funds of any means of support allocated to the lesser sports who he claimed are his greatest focus.
