Arsenal has proven to the world of football that they need to be taken serious just as their manager Arteta who has become one of the few to clinch a win over the big names and on the big stages.

The UEFA champions league undoubtedly is the most prestigious competition for club football just as the FIFA world cup is to national teams and although Real Madrid have dominated the competition with the majority trophies, Arsenal showed why they do not deserve a spot in the competition at this time.

The first leg tie at the Emirates Stadium and even the draw which saw Arsenal facing Real Madrid got many people calling off Arsenal but the London team had other plans for the Los Blancos.

Carlo Ancelotti who has been in charge of the team and won some remarkable number of trophies as their manager had another task of getting the team to the final and probably helping them win yet another champions league but Arsenal have shot them right in their knees making it hard to move on.

At the Emirates, Arsenal who were the underdogs coming into the game against the competition giants Real Madrid had one task and that was to upset the favourites. In the first leg tie, Arsenal made a statement that shook the football ball world.

They hosted the Los Blancos and gave them a whooping which was characterised by total dominance and tactics. The entire game was like a child’s play for Arsenal as they held the midfield of the pitch as scored three unanswered goals at the Emirates Stadium.

Real Madrid who have made a couple of comebacks in the Champions league when Cristiano Ronaldo was with the club has people assuming they were going to deliver another masterclass against Arsenal at the Santiago Bernabéu but it was a different story all together.

The game which started with lots of chants from the home fans almost changed to a silent hour in the early minutes of of the game when Arsenal was awarded a penalty kick in the 13th minute after a VAR check.

Bukayo Saka who has been the headache of Real Madrid missed the chance to put Arsenal ahead and in the 28th minute, Real Madrid had a shout for same but the appeal for a penalty was overturned by a VAR decision.

The first half remained goalless and things switched up in the second half. Real Madrid were playing in their comfort without urgency and pace and anyone would assume they were the team with the advantage.

Arsenal who came into the tie with a three goals lead broke the deadlock in the 65th minute with a beautiful goal after lofting the ball over Thibaut Courtois. The advantage was now 4-0 to Arsenal and Real Madrid needed to up their game.

Vinicius Junior equalised for Real Madrid two minutes after Saka’s beauty but that was the only urgency Real Madrid showcased. Holding on to possession and making things easy for Arsenal as they played around in the midfield.

Gabriel Martinelli who was busy all night and eager to clinch a trophy with Arsenal wasn’t having the time to play around either was he satisfied with the scoreline. In the 90+ minutes of the game, Arsenal had a counter attack where Mikel Merino saw Martinelli in an open space and passed him the ball, with his pace and power, Martinelli slotted one past Courtois to make it 1-2 for Arsenal.

‘The comeback become a comedown’ at the Santiago Bernabéu while the visitors jubilated with a mission fulfilled.
