The trend of Ghanaian boxers losing outside of Ghana is alarming and this alerted many boxing experts and boxing including former world champion Joshua Clottey who in recent times sent a word of advice to Ghanaian boxers who wished to become the best and competitive in the world.

Bonkyenu Zile also known as ‘The Monster’ in the ring is a Ghanaian boxer in the Super Bantamweight division and has been impressive to many people who support his craft but there is something particular about his entire career that makes what Joshua Clottey and other stakeholders say hold.

Majority of Zile’s fights have been in Accra and Kumasi of which he has either won or drawn. His first fight outside Ghana was at the Super Dome Arena, Dar-Es-Salaam in Tanzania against Fadhili Majiha where he lost.

John Bonkyenu Zile who had the chance to win the WBO Youth Super Bantamweights Title against Siyabulela Hem in South Africa and with hope of Zile recording a victory to start his journey of world title contention he lost.

This has got many wondering what is happening with Ghana boxing and the boxers who are parading themselves to be the best but succumb to beating when they leave their territory.

No disrespect to Hem but the fights and records of Zile and his versatility gave him an urge according to his fans in Ghana but that wasn’t exactly what happened in the ring.

Going back to Joshua Clottey’s advice, these boxers or many Ghanaian boxers are not fighting with boxers who pose a threat to their records, they choose boxers who they can easily win against just to keep their shine and to win points on the world face.

The real problem starts when they meet a boxer who is hungry and has been training their whole life and can’t be manipulated, they give you the test of your life and even go further to many you fight for more than your face but also your reputation, “if you will lose, lose honourably.” just as was said by Joshua Clottey.
