World Rugby has published the permutations for the men’s rankings this week in its preview.
World Rugby has published the ranking permutations for this weekend’s Rugby Europe Men’s Trophy 2024-25 and Conference 2024-25 matches.
Permutation highlights:
- While victory over Poland will secure Sweden the Rugby Europe Men’s Trophy 2024-25 title, it will not come with the bonus of a climb to a new high in the rankings.
- This is because a win by more than 15 points will leave Sweden 30th, just 0.06 rating points adrift of Switzerland in 29th.
- Defeat by this margin will see Poland slip back to 32nd, losing the position they gained by beating Luxembourg last weekend.
- However, Poland will become the higher-ranked of the two if they win to be crowned champions, replacing their hosts Sweden in the world’s top 30.
- There are two matches in the Rugby Europe Men’s Conference 2024-25 which can also impact the rankings this weekend.
- Ukraine will climb above Malaysia into 49th if they beat their hosts Hungary – with another place possible if the winning margin is more than 15 points.
- Hungary are set to lose two places with such a heavy defeat, three if Turkey also beat Serbia.
- By contrast, a win by more than 15 points could see Hungary jump eight places to 70th.
- Defeat will prove very costly for Ukraine as they will slip to their lowest ever position in the rankings with a fall of at least nine places to 59th – 12 if the margin if by more than 15 points.
- Turkey must beat Serbia to remain the higher-ranked of the two countries and will enter the top 80 for the first time with any margin of victory.
- A draw would be enough for Serbia to leapfrog them, while a win could see them jump as many as eight places to 77th depending on the result in Hungary.
