“I’m very patient and willing to wait for the right moment to get my goal,” he said. “I enjoy going forward, although I need to further improve my speed and shooting skills.”

The defender stole the spotlight at the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Saudi Arabia 2025 Qualifiers by levelling the score in their 3-2 win over Kyrgyz Republic, scoring in a 1-1 draw with Vietnam and finding the back of the net once in their 6-1 defeat of Myanmar.  

The 17-year-old has been front and centre at Saudi Arabia 2025, with his speed resulting in penalties converted by team captain Mohammed Al Garash against Afghanistan and Indonesia.

Abdulatif hails from Abyan and started playing at seven.

“Football is the number one sport in my city and my three brothers play for amateur clubs, so I learnt to love the game from a young age.

“I was also inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo, who has all the characteristics required of a professional player.” 

The Al Tilal SC player has participated in two international tournaments to date, including Saudi Arabia 2025.

“I hope this will be my most memorable event because if we win, the team gets to play in the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025. I’m also excited about being here because I need more experience. Playing at this level enables me to gauge my football skills against players from different countries.”

Abdulatif said while Yemen are doing their best, he has been unable to contribute 100% to their cause.

“I dislocated my ankle and have just come back after being sidelined for three months. But I’m developing step by step, and hope to peak as we advance further in this tournament,” said Abdulatif, with Yemen to face Korea Republic in a winner-takes-all Group C tie on Thursday.
