The nations wembley as has been claimed by many in the country has come under lots of scrutiny following numerous attempts to get it into shape for any international event.
The National sports authority and their previous boss have been under lots of pressure as all funds that was allocated to the authority for renovation works had little to no impact on the property.
Ghana has to struggle with emergency measures to meet CAF’s approval for the AFCON and FIFA world cup qualifiers.
The change in government recently saw a change in the directorship of the authority as a senior sports journalist, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah got the nord to head the National Sports Authority.
His appointment was inevitable as the sports personality has been in the game for years and has contributed significantly to sports in the country.
A recent interview with the current National Sports Authority director Mr. Ankrah made numerous revelations which showed that the Accra Sports Stadium is not what football lovers are writing about.
In his interview the director stated, “there will be no activities here at the Accra Sports Stadium officially. We are halfway through our review after the Chad game. If I want to be very honest, I would use the word ‘Crime scene’”.
Pictures from the floodlight showed rust and rot, while sections of the edifice and sitting areas require lots of fixing. Seating areas and the media section all needs to updated for its usablity.
With this said, many believe the funds allocated to the authority in the past should be enough to have restored the stadium to its past glory but has been misappropriated.
With the massive support the Ghana Black Stars had in their last game against Chad, the current director has made it a mandate to ensure the stadium is safe and user friendly for the future and for all sporting activities.
