In recent times, discrimination and racism has been on the rise in football and the various associations have tried their best to bring it under control with numerous measures including hefty fines and bans while the affected teams also find their own means of sanctioning their perpetrators.
On the 3rd of February 2025, Chelsea hosted West Ham United at the Stamford Bridge in an English premier league fixture where Chelsea conceded a goal in the first half.
Chelsea went on to turn the results after the ens of proceedings to secure a 2-1 win over the visitors.
News break indicated that West Ham have been charged by the Football Association over alleged homophobic chanting by their fans during the game which they lost by 2-1 to Chelsea.
The FA said the Hammers were being charged with misconduct in relation to crowd control. It alleged “the club failed to ensure its spectators2” and “did not behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, indecent or insulting way with reference to sexual orientation”.
West Ham United although releasing a statement to strongly condemn the discriminatory and homophobic chants aimed towards opposition supporters have until Tuesday, 1 April 2025 to reply to the charges levied by the FA.
In the statement released by West Ham, sections in the releases stated, “the chant is wholly unacceptable and has no place in football or anywhere else”.
These acts as has not been accepted by any association of federation continues to spread. FIFA, UEFA and all others have launched numerous campaigns geared to end such and hope they find a solution in the long run.
