Sudan came into the limelight after Ghanaian gaffer Mr. James Kwesi Appiah took over the team and changed things around to make them compete after securing four (4) points in two games against Ghana.
The AFCON qualifier which was surrounded by lots of brouhaha following a decision from both CAF and the GFA to relieve Mr. James Kwesi Appiah of his duty as a member of the Ghana Football Association Exco member citing a care of conflict ended with the said still returning to same.
With the Ghanaian gaffer in charge of the Sudan national team, Sudan was top of the FIFA world cup qualifiers before heading into their game against South Sudan and many lauded the Ghanaian gaffer.
Mr. Appiah was relieved from his duty as the Ghana Black Stars coach on two occasions before he signed to the Sudan Football Association.
Many started to associate his success with Sudan as lack of respect in the Black stars camp and interference from the Ghana Football Association in his selection and tactics.
The same supporters who lauded him for his exploits with the Sudan national team have started associating his current setback to changing trends.
Sudan played against South Sudan and had the chance to go top of their group and just like Nigeria who gave away their win in the closing minutes of the game.
Sudan opened the scoring on the 77th minute through Mo Eisa and defended the lead into stoppage time. With 8 minutes of added time, Sudan had one job to do but could not keep their composure.
In the 90+8th minute, David Omot Sebit who came on as a substitute in the 71st minute become the hero for South Sudan after snatching an equaliser for his side.
Sudan and Mr. Appiah dropping two (2) points moved them from the first position to the third position and brings their hopes of qualification to the FIFA world cup in doubt.
