The UEFA nations league between Portugal and Denmark was one game that brought more than thrills as the favourites has to go all in to secure the much needed win to book a place in the last four.
Denmark who have been a formidable force in the tournament so far came into the game with one of the most experiences shot stoppers Kasper Schmeichel who has been in the English premier league and played against most of the Portuguese nationals.
With a 2-1 advantage coming into the fixture, majority would have called it early for Portugal but Denmark had other plans.
The current world leading goal king, Cristiano Ronaldo in the sixth minute of the game had the chance to put his side in the lead following a VAR decision that was awarded for a spot kick, the goal poacher placed the ball into the comfortable hands of Kasper who was showered with praise from his team.
The Portugal national team did not give up as they started to push to get an opener. In the countless attempts, Joachim Andersen in the thirty-eight minute put the hosts in the lead following an own goal.
Christian Eriksen who has been dominant in the EPL came to the party in the fifty-sixth minute after he sent a sweet one to Rasmus Kristensen who equalised for Denmark.
That would have been enough for the hosts but Cristiano Ronaldo who has been on a goal rampage bounced back from the missed penalty and shot one from outside the 18-yard box to double their lead.
The Danish talisman struck once again four minutes after CR7 had given Portugal the lead to pull his side back to level pegging. With the away rule, Denmark had their leg in the next round until Portugal gets things going to either take the game to extended play or score twice to win the spot in regular time.
Francisco Trincao who came on as a substitute for Diago Dalot in the eighty-first minute latched on a rebound to give Portugal the lead and a score line that could take them to extra time.
It was becoming a Trincao party after the substitute added the second to his tally a minute of play into extra time. The game had now opened with both teams giving it all and flying in ball from both angles.
The hosts went on to add a third goal in the second half of extra time to zip the game and secure a qualification spot. Many other teams like Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Greece, Turkey and Serbia have also booked a spot on the next stage of the competition.
